Top 10 R&B Songs That Will Set The Mood

It is time to sit back with your lady, relax, and set the mood.  I have collected a list
of some of the best slow-jams from the last couple decades.  The majority of the
list comes from the mid to late 1990’s when R&B music was defining itself in
popular culture and ultimately making its way into the bedroom.

10. Shai - If I Ever Fall in Love


Shai hit the scene in the early 1990’s.  Similar to Boyz II Men they were mainly a
cappella group.  They are often considered a one-hit-wonder with the song If I
Ever Fall in Love.  With a bit of a slower beat the song was a major hit in the U.S.
It reached number #2 in 1992.  It also showed well in the UK, Australia, Belgium,
France, Sweden, and many other European nations. 

9. Az Yet - Last Night

Az Yet is an R&B group from Philadelphia that have released only one album.  They are known for their rendition of Chicago’s Hard To Say I’m Sorry and Last Night.  Last Night was produced by Babyface and was featured on The Nutty Professor soundtrack.  The song reached #1 on the U.S. Hip-Hop singles chart.  

8. Pretty Ricky - Grind on Me

 

Pretty Ricky is a group that landed on the scene in 2005.  Grind With Me was the first single off their debut album Bluestars.  The song received a lot of radio play all over the United States and was a popular club hit.  It reached #7 on the Billboard Top 100.

7. Usher, Ludacris, Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz -
Lovers & Friends (Remix)


Lovers & Friends was a single released by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz in 2004.  It features Usher and Ludacris.  The trio raps about getting one of their best girlfriends in the bedroom and the thin line between lovers and friends.  Surprisingly there was not a music video released for this song, but it was still a hit and reached #3 in the U.S.  The single was also extremely popular in Australia, Switzerland, and New Zealand.     

6. Montell Jordan & LL Cool J - Get it On Tonite (remix)

 

This song was released in 1999 by Montell Jordan and this version features LL Cool J.  It has an undeniably catchy riff and is a great club song.  It reached the Top 50 in the United States, UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium, and New Zealand. 

5. Mario Vazquez - Gallery

Mario Vazquez is a Puerto Rican-American singer from the The Bronx, New York.  He competed on the fourth season of American Idol.  Gallery was a hit single in 2005 and was co-written and produced by Shaffer Smith, also known as Ne-Yo.  The song reached the Top 50 in the United States, Australia, France, and Sweden.   

4. Usher: Nice and Slow

Usher is probably the most popular R&B artist today, although Justin Timberlake
gives him a run for his money.  Nice and Slow was one of many smash hits off his
1997 album My Way.  It became his first #1 single on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. 

3. Blackstreet Feat. Dr. Dre - No Diggity


Blackstreet was founded in 1992 by Teddy Riley, the inventor of New Jack Swing.  No Diggity was released in 1996 and features rap legend Dr. Dre.  It was a smash hit all over the world and reached the #1 spot in the U.S. and New Zealand.  The song won a Grammy in 1998 and was ranked #91 on Rolling Stone Magazines list of the Top 100 Pop Songs. 

2.  Boyz II Men - I’ll Make Love to You


Undoubtedly the most successful R&B group of all time Boyz II Men had five #1 singles between 1992 and 1997 and sold more then 60 million records.  I’ll Make Love To You was written by Babyface and reached the #1 spot in the U.S. for 14 weeks.  The song ranked #17 on Billboards All Time Top 100.

1. Keith Sweat: Nobody


Keith Sweat is an American R&B singer who was born in Harlem, New York.  He was one of the most successful artists in the late 1980’s & 90’s.  Nobody was featured on his 1996 self-titled album and was a major hit all over the world.  It features Athena Cage who contributed to many of his singles on the album.
